South Miami-Dade mother punched, bit, choked her child over Instagram videos, cops say
A South Miami-Dade daughter wound up beaten into unconsciousness in a neighbor’s driveway and her mother got jailed Wednesday afternoon on charges of aggravated child abuse, Miami-Dade police said.
What an arrest report said sparked 40-year-old Yolanda Bell’s fury: her daughters making Instagram videos.
As of Thursday afternoon, Bell remained in Miami-Dade Corrections custody on $7,500 bond.
According to the account police say witnesses gave them, Bell’s two daughters were making Instagram live videos Tuesday afternoon in their home in the 14000 block of Southwest 272nd Street. This activity upset Bell, police said, and the ensuing argument got to the point of Bell’s trying to take the phone away from the daughter doing the filming.
To do this, the account said, Bell grabbed her daughter’s hair, punched her in the face, bit her on the finger, right arm, back of the neck and a shoulder and began choking the girl. Though Bell achieved her goal of getting the phone away from her daughter, who dumped it in a toilet, she continued to pin her child in the bathtub.
The report says the girl got away and ran to a neighbor’s home, where she collapsed in the driveway. The neighbor called 911.
Bell told Miami-Dade police, “she bit the victim once in self-defense, but could not explain the other noted injuries.”
