Man and woman shot and badly injured during confrontation on turnpike in South Dade

Two people inside a vehicle were shot and severely injured Tuesday afternoon during an encounter with another vehicle on an off-ramp of Florida’s Turnpike in South Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Christopher Sowerby-Thomas said the two people shot were a man and a woman and that the woman was in critical condition. The injured male, he said, was stable. Both have been taken to the hospital.

Sowerby-Thomas said the shooter was still at-large. The shooting happened at Southwest 112th Avenue near 248th Street.

At 2:30 p.m., police blocked Southwest 112th Avenue starting at 248th Street past exit 9B of the turnpike.

Police wearing rubber gloves were inspecting a white Jeep on the northbound shoulder of 112th Avenue.
