Man uses ATM, gets in shootout with would-be robbers in parking lot. Cops seek 2 suspects.

After using the ATM at a Pembroke Pines Chase bank, a man walked back to his car, only to be confronted by two men — one of whom had a gun, police said.

The victim then grabbed his own gun from inside his car and began shooting at the two suspects, according to Pembroke Pines police. At least one of the suspects fired back.

It all happened just before 9 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Chase Bank, 711 N. University Drive.

“During the brief firefight, two nearby vehicles were struck, as well as a window to the Chase bank,” police said in a news release.

Police said the suspects then took off on foot.

The unidentified victim was not injured, but police said it is unknown if the suspects were struck.

Pembroke Pines’ SWAT and K-9 Units searched the area, but could not find the two men. Police say a witness may have seen the suspects in a four-door older model dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic. Two other men were also in the car, police said.

Police believed the Pembroke Pines incident could be related to two similar armed robberies in Hollywood that took place earlier in the day.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pembroke Pines Police Department at 954-431-2200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
