Mom walking near store is struck and killed in hit-and-run in Opa-locka, police say

A mother was struck and killed in a hit-and-run near a convenience store in Opa-locka.

It happened at Northwest 135th Street and 30th Avenue late Wednesday night, according to Opa-locka police. She died on the street.

She was a mother of six, according to WSVN. Police did not identify the woman.

“It’s very disheartening to us because that’s someone’s mother or sister...someone they just left at the scene,” Opa-locka Police Chief James Dobson told NBC6.

All lanes in the area were shut down during the investigation. Video taken by TV news stations showed the woman’s body on the side of the road, covered in a yellow tarp. She was reportedly near a Kwik convenience store.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call police.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
