Father kills son and daughter-in-law in Miami-Dade home, then surrenders, police say

A father shot and killed his namesake son and the son’s wife before surrendering to a Miami-Dade police Special Response Team on Saturday night, police sources say.

Dead at the house in the 8900 block of Northwest 187th Street were Carlos Martinez, Jr., 49 , and Julia Martinez, 52. Arrested on two counts of second degree murder and one count aggravated assault with a firearm was Carlos Martinez, Sr., 69.

Neighbors of the home owned and lived in by Julia Martinez heard gunshots around 11 p.m. When police got to the house after a report of a shooting, Martinez Sr. was in the driveway holding a handgun. He barricaded himself in the house.

Around 1:15 a.m., the neighborhood rang with the voice of a Special Response Team member on a megaphone asking Martinez Sr. in Spanish to emerge: “Carlos, por favor salga afuera.”
