Police chase starts in Hallandale Beach, ends with gunfire in Hollywood, cops say

An attempted traffic stop in Hallandale Beach ended with an officer-involved shooting near Hollywood Boulevard, between Interstate 95 and the Hollywood City Hall circle.

One suspect was shot and taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, police said, while the other suspect was detained.

“A Hallandale Beach police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a moving violation,” Hallandale Beach Capt. RaShana Dabney-Donovan said via email.

“The vehicle refused to stop. The passenger was observed opening the passenger door, brandishing a firearm,” she said. “A short pursuit ensued, which ended in the City of Hollywood. The subjects bailed out of the vehicle and our officer was forced to fire more than one round.”

Sunday’s early-morning chase and shooting comes after police chased a carjacked UPS truck with a hostage Thursday evening and then got into a shootout with the suspects in Miramar rush-hour traffic. Four people, including the two suspects, a UPS driver and a bystander, were killed.
