‘Go get hit by a car.’ Mom charged after she drops son off near McDonald’s, cops say.
A mother is facing a child neglect charge after cops say she dropped her son off at a Homestead McDonald’s and told him to “go get hit by a car,” according to a police report.
Tina Edwards, 34, was arrested Tuesday after officers found her at her home. She “spontaneously stated that she did not know where her son was at,” an officer said in the arrest report.
It all started Tuesday, when Edwards signed her son out of elementary school early. Police did not give the boy’s exact age.
Edwards, police said, then drove the boy to the McDonald’s at 2880 NE Eighth St. Before leaving him on the side of the road, she said “go get hit by a car,” an officer wrote.
The boy recognized Homestead Hospital and walked there. He then called his father for help.
Meanwhile, police were also called to the hospital because a child came in alone. The boy’s father arrived shortly after.
The boy’s father told police he and Edwards were separated, but there was no custody agreement, according to the report.
He also said that she has signed him out of school early before, but had told the school to not allow her to do that anymore, police said.
The Department of Children & Families was notified.
