Body found in trunk of car in Walmart parking lot, police say

Miami-Dade police made a grisly discovery Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of a Homestead Walmart — a man’s body inside the trunk of a while Honda Accord.

Police were alerted to the Accord around 11 a.m. by a man who said he spotted a car that looked just like the one his missing brother owns and followed it.

The man, who reported his brother missing two days ago, tracked the car from Monroe County to the Homestead Walmart.

When police arrived at the Walmart, 13600 SW 288th St., they detained three people inside the car, two men and a woman, said Christopher Soweby-Thomas, a spokesman for Miami-Dade police.

Sowerby-Thomas said a foul odor coming from the car led police to find the body of a man inside the trunk. It was not immediately if the body found is the man’s missing brother.

“It was a pretty horrific scene,” he said

The three people inside were taken to the police station to be questioned. As of Thursday night, no charges had been filed.

The car with the man’s body inside was taken to the Medical’s Examiners Office for an autopsy.
