A city of Miami police officer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital after a vehicle crash late Wednesday morning, police said.
Police spokesman Michael Vega said the officer was on-duty when the crash occurred. Police said the officer was driving his patrol car and ran into another vehicle that appeared to have run through a flashing light. It wasn’t clear if the flashing light was red or yellow.
Police said the crash was serious enough that the patrol car caught fire. Though the collision was significant, the source said the officer didn’t suffer any serious injuries. It was not immediately clear if the person driving the other car was injured or how seriously.
The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. near the corner of Southwest 10th Avenue and First Street. By late morning police said it was still unknown who was at fault in the crash.
