A week after Casey Jones was found inside a Miami park with a fatal stab wound, police say they have found the killer.
On Monday, Miami police announced the arrest of Erica Parker, 49. Parker was charged with second-degree murder. Detectives say she used a knife to stab Jones in the chest on Nov. 19 at Pine Heights Park, 801 NW 15th St.
Police say an officer was alerted to “an unresponsive male in the field” at the park just before 10 p.m. There, the officer found Jones, 61, dead with a “puncture wound” on the left side of his chest.
The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.
Detectives say their investigation led them to nearby Camillus House, 1603 NW Seventh Ave., where they were told that Parker stabbed Jones.
Then, a visit to the park resulted in detectives finding a witness, police said in the report. The unnamed witness told detectives that Jones, Parker and another man were drinking alcohol in the park when they got in an argument, “at which point the defendant produced a knife and stabbed the victim,” an officer wrote in the report..
“According to the witness, the defendant was clearly the aggressor during the incident,” the officer wrote.
Parker, according to the report, told police she stabbed Jones but did so in self-defense.
She was being held in Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with no bond.
