Miami-Dade police looking for man wanted for attempted murder
Paul Merlo was riding his bicycle with friends on the South Dade Transitway when he got into a fight with another bicycle rider in the area.
The fight ended when the other man pulled out a gun and shot Merlo, police said.
On Wednesday, police released surveillance video to help identify the shooter, who detectives say left on a black bicycle with blue rims. He is wanted for attempted murder, police say.
The incident happened just after midnight Oct. 27 on the South Dade Transitway and Southwest 132nd Street.
Police say Merlo, 18, of Florida City, was riding his bicycle with friends southbound on the bike path adjacent to the Transitway. At Southwest 132nd Street, Merlo encountered the other man, police said.
“The altercation escalated when the subject brandished a handgun and shot the victim,” police said in a news release.
The shooter is described as 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6 with a slim build and long curly dark hair worn in a bun. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and black cargo pants.
