Teen wounded in drive-by shooting, police say
A 14-year-old was left with a hip wound after a drive-by shooting in a Brownsville neighborhood Sunday night, police said.
Police said the teen was hit when someone inside a dark colored vehicle drove by and opened fire just before 7 p.m. at 6020 NW 20th Ave.
The teen was hit in the upper thigh and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, police said.
No other information, including the teen’s condition, was immediately available.
Shortly after the shooting, Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho took to social media to express his disgust.
“Angered by this senseless violence, resulting in the shooting of a teenage boy,” he wrote on Twitter. “It should anger us all — every single time. Our young people deserve better.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
