A construction worker who chased down a man believed to have stolen something from a site on Miami Beach was attacked and struck with a hammer during the scuffle.
According to Miami Beach police, someone working on a building at 1300 Monad Ter. on Monday afternoon noticed a man had stolen some items from the construction site and chased the man down to 10th Street and Lenox Avenue.
They fought, and police said the thief hit the construction worker with a hammer, then threatened him with a gun. The suspect fled and is still at large. Police set up a perimeter between 10th and 11th Streets and Alton Road and Lenox Avenue for about two hours, then broke it down. The attack happened just after noon.
The construction worker struck with the hammer is expected to recover and was not taken to the hospital. Police said the suspect is about six feet tall and was shirtless during the altercation.
