Some customers just can’t fathom that even a fast-food restaurant has closing hours.
That became apparent around 4 a.m. Thursday when a Checkers at 4000 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Pembroke Park closed its doors and two employees walked out of the restaurant.
A man and a woman in a white SUV pulled up to the restaurant “looking for something to eat,” Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said in a release.
According to deputies, the hungry duo asked the employees whether they could get some food. The Checkers staffers told the couple the restaurant was closed.
“Not taking ‘no’ for an answer, the driver pulled out a handgun and fired several shots,” BSO said.
Surveillance video shows the white SUV driving out of the parking lot and suddenly the two employees scramble back inside the building — one of the employees, who was shot in the leg, can be seen hopping on one leg before entering the restaurant and then hitting the ground once inside.
BSO released the video, which shows several camera angles, including an image of the driver. Deputies ask the public to watch the video and, if anyone recognizes the “dangerous duo” or has information, to call it in to authorities.
The employee who was shot in the leg was transported to a local hospital. The injury isn’t life threatening, BSO said. The other employee was unharmed.
