A car crashed into a tree. When cops arrived, they found the bullet holes.
Neighbors in a Miami Lakes neighborhood heard the car lose control and crash into a tree.
What they didn’t hear was the gun shots that could have sent the southbound car careening into the tree on Northwest 89th Avenue and 146th Street around 7:20 Thursday evening.
NBC 6 reports that after the crash residents went out and saw someone running from the scene of the crash.
When police arrived, they found the crashed gray Volkswagen Jetta with a bullet hole in the rearview mirror and a dead man in the backseat. The driver was missing.
On Friday, Miami-Dade police identified the victim in the car as Lester Santana Hernandez, 37.
Hernandez was shot.
Miami-Dade Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said the possible driver was still at large Friday morning.
Police are investigating and ask if anyone has any information to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-8477.
