Donald Jerome Brown said he felt disrespected when an acquaintance doused him with a cup of water. So he waited outside a North Miami Beach Jiffy Food, police say, and then stabbed the water tosser in the throat several times.
A day after the incident outside the convenience store, police found Brown, 42, who also goes by the name “Dread,” in the hospital. He confessed to the stabbing, police said, and was charged with first-degree attempted murder.
Brown remained at the hospital after he was charged. Why he was in the hospital remained unclear. The victim, a father of three, according to witnesses, was also at a hospital in critical but stable condition. By late Monday police had not released the victim’s name.
“It was a pretty brutal stabbing,” said North Miami Beach Police Maj. Richard Rand.

Police said the trouble began some time before 11 a.m. Sunday when Brown and the victim, who have known each other for some time, were inside a store on Northeast 163rd Street not far from Biscayne Boulevard. Brown told police that the father of three threw a cup of water in his face.
When the victim walked into another store called Jiffy Food at Northeast 163rd Street and 15th Avenue, Brown said he waited outside for him. After the man left the store, Brown told police he pulled out a folding pocket knife, walked behind the man and stabbed him several times on the right side of his throat.
Then, according to police, the victim ran back inside the store and someone called 911. During the incident, several witnesses ran over and tried to help the man who was bleeding profusely.
Several witnesses said they confronted Brown, who told them he stabbed the man because he felt disrespected. Then Brown took off.
