Miami Gardens police on Thursday identified the men they say were behind a tri-county chase Wednesday that began in the city and ended in Boyton Beach.
Demetrics Brown, 35, and Glenn Jackson, 33, were arrested and remained in jail Thursday. Brown faces charges including two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing/eluding, resisting arrest, grand theft auto and reckless driving. His bond was set at $26,000. Jackson faces a burglary charge and was being held on a $5,000 bond.
The chase began about 4 p.m. after Miami Gardens officers heard gunshots in the area of Northwest 167th Street and 17th Avenue and then saw a red sedan speed off. Police tried to stop the car, but it kept going. Police followed the car eastbound on the 826 and then northbound on Interstate 95.
The high-speed chase was captured by WSVN-7's chopper and shown live. It came to an end after the driver attempted to get off the highway at Gateway Boulevard and lost a tire. The driver then hopped over the highway barrier and ran through backyards. An officer with a dog eventually caught the man, now identified as Brown.
