West Miami Commissioner Candida Blanca named vice mayor
By the flip of a coin, West Miami Commissioner Candida Blanca becomes the city’s new vice mayor.
Blanca will serve as vice mayor for two years, followed by two years as commissioner. She succeeds Juan M. Blanes, who becomes a commissioner.
In February, three West Miami incumbents (Blanca, Commissioner Luciano Suarez and Mayor Eduardo Muhiña) all ran for reelection in uncontested races.
Muhiña has served as mayor since 2009.
At the April 12 special commission meeting, Blanca was chosen over Suarez as vice mayor by the flip of a coin.
Blanca will be sworn in 8 p.m. Monday at the West Miami commission chambers, 901 SW 62 Ave.
