A man who shot and killed his estranged wife in a busy Westchester shopping center earlier this week and then turned the gun on himself, died Thursday, according to police.

Police said Thursday that Rafael Baster Sanchez, 44, shot and killed his wife Lourdes Martinez-Rodriguez, 43, after a discussion turned into an argument.

Martinez-Rodriguez’s 15-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting. On Wednesday a Miami-Dade judge placed her in the custody of her friend’s parents after no family members showed up to the hearing. It was not clear if Sanchez is the girl’s father.

The shooting happened Tuesday evening at the Westchester Shopping Center at Southwest 87th Avenue and Coral Way. The center includes Party City, Ross Dress for Less and an Aldi supermarket. The couple was parked side-by-side when Sanchez pulled out the gun and shot Martinez-Rodriguez.
