Orlando Lopez elected mayor of Sweetwater
Orlando Lopez, who has been a commissioner in Sweetwater for the past 14 years, was elected mayor on Tuesday.
“I am very thankful that the residents of Sweetwater voted for the best candidate,” said Lopez, 47, who will be sworn in on Friday.
Lopez received 936 votes and defeated Deborah Centeno, who received 598 votes, and Douglas Mayorga, 145 votes.
Only 24 percent of the registered voters participated.
On Tuesday, three city commissioners were also elected: Prisca Barreto defeated challenger Elsa Thompson; Manuel Duasso defeated challenger Saúl Díaz; and Idania Llanio defeated incumbent José M. Guerra.
