South Miami’s Parks and Recreation Department helped the city become one of the 34 United States cities and towns newly recognized in 2017 for putting kids and family needs first as part of the Playful City USA program.
The nonprofit Kaboom! Playful City USA honors cities and towns that allow free access to play so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills.
The 258 communities included in the 2017 Playful City USA recognition feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging play spaces and serve more than four million children.
West Park, Tamarac, Sunrise, Pinecrest, Parkland, Palmetto Bay, Oakland Park, North Miami Beach, Miami Lakes, Miami Beach, Miami, Margate, Lauderhill, Hallandale Beach, Doral, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Gables, and Coconut Creek were among the 36 cities in Florida named a Playful City USA. Florida led all states with its total number of cities with the designation.
