North Miami Beach officer Lino Diaz, shot twice last week at a home where he was serving a warrant, is doing “well” and will be released from the hospital in the next few days, according to the city.

City officials planned to visit him at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and present signed get-well wishes from Little League baseball players who took the field on opening day in North Miami Beach on Sunday morning. Diaz was honored at the game.

Diaz, 47, was shot Friday during a joint investigation into unemployment fraud. A member of the city’s Special response Team, he was struck in the arm and leg.

Two people inside the home, 16033 NE Eighth Ave., were arrested.
