North Miami Councilman Philippe Bien-Aime will host a town hall meeting to discuss proposed projects in his district, most notably a plan for a Walmart Neighborhood Market.
Bien-Aime, who represents District 3, is hosting his meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Griffing Center, 12220 Griffing Blvd., the night before the city’s planning commission meets to discuss the proposal and offer a recommendation to the City Council.
He described the proposed site, a vacant area off Northeast 135th Street between Memorial Highway and Northeast Third Court, as a very important area and said he opposes the plan as presented.
“I don’t mind putting a Walmart in North Miami, but not that location,” Bien-Aime said.

Instead, he hopes to see more affordable housing developments along with some smaller commercial tenants and businesses.
The current plan calls for a Walmart Neighborhood Market store and parking lot along with a gas station and room for a restaurant or another store. Most of the land is zoned for commercial use, and the developer hopes to have the residential area zoned for its use as well.
