Taxi driver connected to deadly North Miami hit-and-run turns himself in
A taxi driver connected to a deadly hit and run in North Miami turned himself in to police Thursday night.
Junette Escarment, 38, was struck and killed in front of an apartment building on Northeast Sixth Avenue at 132nd Street at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Escarment was going to get a cup of coffee before heading off to the Miami-Dade Bethune Head Start Center where she worked as a teaching assistant.
But officers said she may have fallen into the street before the taxi came, and the driver didn’t realize he hit someone.
Detectives interviewed the driver and his attorney.
Authorities said they have not arrested the taxi driver.
The investigation is ongoing.
