Save Greynolds Park Committee to host cleanup
Park advocates are hosting a cleanup event Saturday morning at Greynolds Park.
The Save Greynolds Park Committee is working with the Birdman’s Trash Initiative on the cleanup event, which will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the park, 17530 West Dixie Hwy.
Participants should meet at the main boathouse in the park. Organizers encourage wearing closed-toe shoes, hats, work gloves and long pants, and bringing sunscreen and insect repellant. Water refills will be provided for people who bring their own bottles.
Last year, the committee opposed plans for a high-rise hotel and mixed-use project planned along the 17400 block of West Dixie Highway. The North Miami Beach city council voted to grant site plan approval and other conditional uses for the project last December.
Kim Lumpkin, chairwoman of the committee, said the group is excited about partnering with the Birdman’s Trash Initiative and hopes participants enjoy the experience and learn more about the 249-acre urban preserve.
“We want people to help preserve the park, and we hope it will be a fun experience, too,” Lumpkin said.
