Several hours after a man was shot outside a small North Miami strip mall Friday, the incident remains a mystery.

North Miami Police Maj. Kessler Brooks said someone called and reported a shooting before sunrise at the mall at 12641 NW 17th Ave. But when police arrived, all they found were blood smatterings on a door and window.

Officers then checked with area hospitals and it turned out North Shore Medical Center had a male victim with a gunshot wound to his stomach in critical condition.

Police believe he is the likely victim. But it wasn’t clear if they even had his name as he was undergoing surgery at the hospital. Detectives continue to search for clues to unravel the mystery.
