Watch an SUV stopped on the tracks in North Miami — as a Brightline train is coming
The following account is from Miami Herald news partner CBS4.
A woman and her children bailed from an SUV just moments before it was hit by a Brightline train.
The impact happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at a railroad crossing in North Miami. The crash came just days after a announcement from Brightline that the train company will be adding safety updates and additions to railroad crossings.
Witnesses say a woman was parked in between the lowered gates. As she heard the train getting closer, she and her kids hopped out and left the SUV on the tracks.
A Brightline train, with horns blaring, came along moments later and slammed into the SUV. The family inside the SUV narrowly escaped the crash at the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 141st Street.
“It was just like what was that where did that come from?” said Jahu Moore, who works at a car dealership behind the railroad crossing. “Everybody started moving towards the front to see what was going on.”
A family member, who wasn’t there when the crash happened, later arrived to collect debris.
He said he doesn’t know why the SUV was parked on the track but he’s grateful tonight that his family wasn’t hurt.
