Drivers with faulty car insurance were used as cautionary tales Thursday as local police agencies combined for a insurance fraud operation.
North Miami Beach police were among the 10 agencies that combined to perform routine traffic stops and, in the process, spot drivers who were uninsured or who had fake policies. The agencies combined with 28 insurance agencies who were available to instantly verify the insurance of the drivers.
Officer Rafael Florencio made at least four stops Thursday morning for different traffic infractions and two lead to arrests. Both individuals said they either didn’t have insurance or chose to let it expire. Both drivers were also driving without a license.
“We’re getting uninsured motorists off the road,” Florencio said. “This is not about slamming people, it’s really about education.”
