Twenty one members of Youth of Valor Empowerment, a nonprofit leadership and after school program that supports underprivileged teenage girls in North Miami, were treated to shopping spree Sunday.
But that wasn’t all they got.
The exclusive back-to-school event at Macy’s Aventura also included a meet-and-greet with actress and singer Serayah McNeill —best known for her role as Tiana Brown on the popular show, Empire. McNeill gave a public performance after spending some alone time with the girls.
The young ladies were also treated to a private shopping spree with stylists who helped pick their “post grad attire.”

“It’s so exciting. [This] will literally equip the Y.O.V.E. girls with greater confidence so that they may achieve self-sufficiency through employment, continuing education and leadership in our community,” said Lady Lourdes Pierre, CEO and founder of the organization.
This year, 15 girls graduated from the two-year-program. Many of them are heading to college while others enlist with the military or train to become first responders.
