North Miami Beach police have little to go on.
An anonymous tip Monday led them to a field near 159th Street and 21st Avenue where a cooler had been dumped.
Inside, a dismembered dog.
“We have an obligation to find out why someone would do something like this to a helpless animal,” said Richard Rand, a police spokesman.

Rand said detectives are canvassing the area and looking for surveillance video to help them find the dog’s killer.
As of Wednesday, detectives did not know how long the cooler had been there.
The discovery comes about a month after a pit bull was stabbed more than 50 times and shoved into a suitcase that was dumped near an abandoned building in Hollywood. The dog later died. On Tuesday Hollywood police executed a search warrant at a Hollywood home to help them find clues. As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made.
North Miami Beach police is asking anyone with information about the dog in the cooler to call 305-949-5500 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
