Emergency repairs on a 36-inch water main on Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 35th Terrace could affect traffic in the area for about two weeks, according to the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.

Water and Sewer Director Lester Sola said a repair crew discovered the pipe was near failure, and the decision was made to immediately mend it.

While the emergency repair is scheduled for two weeks, Sola said the hope is to get it done faster.

“They're going to be working 24 hours a day,” Sola said.

During the first week of construction, northbound traffic on Biscayne Boulevard will be reduced to one lane while two southbound lanes remain open. During the second week of repairs, southbound traffic on Biscayne Boulevard will be reduced to one lane, and two northbound lanes will remain open.

But the Water and Sewer Department is warning commuters they may want to avoid the area during the repairs.
