Miami Gardens clerk shot dead outside grocery store
Miami Gardens police are searching for the killer of a convenience store clerk gunned down outside a food market on his way in to work.
Zaid Karbar, 53, died Friday night outside the Strawberry Grocery Store where he usually worked the overnight shift.
His coworker, Hussian Majiad, said he was waiting for Karbar to relieve him at the store.
“He came to work at 7:20. When he got out of the car, he park it outside of the store and he got out of the car,” Majiad said.
But the father of eight didn’t make it into the store at Northwest 191st Street and 37th Avenue.
“I just heard a shot behind the wall. I heard the bullets hit the wall, about like three, four times,” Majiad said. “I see him down on the floor. He died pretty quick.”
Customers said Karbar was well known and well liked in the neighborhood.
Near the bullet holes on the side of the building is a growing memorial with teddy bears and flowers that customers have left behind.
“He’s a good person. He’s a nice person, very nice person. He has no problem with nobody,” said customer Jose Mgiid.
Investigators said they searched the area for potential surveillance cameras.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-6160.
