Three teens arrested after police chase in Northwest Miami-Dade
A brief police chase Tuesday afternoon ended with three teens arrested, facing charges including grand theft and possession of a firearm, according to police.
It all started when a narcotics detective in an unmarked police car spotted a white 2016 Mercedes C300 “driving at a high rate of speed” in the area of Northwest 86th Street and Northwest 19th Avenue, according to police.
The officer ran the license plate and learned the car had been stolen from Fort Lauderdale.
The officer requested assistance. Opa-locka police units responded and tried unsuccessfully to stop the car.
With the help of a helicopter, police tracked the car to Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 22nd Avenue. The driver, identified as Armend V. Jefferson, 18, faces charges of grand theft and possession of a firearm. Also arrested were two passengers: Kelly Jackson, 18, who faces a firearm possession charge and a 16-year-old, who also faces a firearm possession charge.
Police say in addition to recovering a stolen car, officers also seized a shotgun and handgun.
