Second large Miami-Dade fire is put out as firefighters battle five-alarm blaze
As dozens of Miami-Dade firefighters are battling a five-alarm fire at a six-story warehouse near Miami Gardens on Thursday, the county’s fire rescue also battled a large fire that sparked up in a junkyard later in the afternoon.
Around 12:50 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed to reports of cars on fire in a junkyard in the 12800 block of Port Said Road in Opa-locka — there are at least three junkyards in that area, authorities said.
By 2:20 p.m., authorities said the fire had been put out.
At least nine Miami-Dade fire rescue units worked to extinguish the fire, a spokesperson said. No injuries were reported.
About an hour and a half earlier than the Opa-locka blaze, Miami-Dade firefighters began fighting a fire at a warehouse at 20600 NW 47th Ave. near Miami Gardens, about three miles west of Hard Rock Stadium.

That blaze was upgraded to a five-alarm fire and 48 units are trying to put it out. Authorities are worried of possible structure collapse and are using helicopters to drop water from above.
Roads were blocked off on Northwest 47th Avenue from 199th to 215th Streets. Broward’s Palm Avenue, which turns into Northwest 47th Avenue in Miami-Dade, has also been blocked off. Authorities have not said if there are road closures for the Opa-locka junkyard fire.
The National Weather Service told the Miami Herald both fires’ plumes of smoke are blowing away from airports and toward residential areas.
People with sensitive respiratory systems are urged to stay inside.
