Days after a 2-year-old boy shot himself in the leg with his mother’s gun, she was cuffed Monday as police say she was responsible for what could have been a fatal outcome.

On Wednesday, Christina Doyle was driving her son and her cousin’s son in the parking lot of an apartment complex, 21001 NW 22nd Ave, an arrest report read. As the 33-year-old was reversing into a spot, she heard a loud bang.

She turned around to see her son had stolen her handgun from her purse and shot himself in the right leg.

The young boy was the only person injured and taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the report said. Doyle was not arrested that day.

On Monday, Miami Gardens police said Doyle agreed to come into the statition. While she did give officers a statement, it was redacted in her arrest report.

She was soon after arrested and charged with child neglect with great bodily harm and culpable negligence.

As of Tuesday, she still remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
