Tri-Rail and Miami-Dade County bus collision was caused by hit-and-run: officials
A Tri-Rail with 50 people on board struck a Miami-Dade County bus late Wednesday that was pushed onto the tracks by the driver of a box truck who took off, according to county officials.
Around 10:30 p.m., the southbound Tri-Rail train P649 hit the stalled bus at Northwest 22nd Avenue near I-95, Tri-Rail spokesperson Victor Garcia said.
Sometime before, the bus was struck by the box truck and pushed onto the tracks, spurring the stall, per county officials. The bus driver managed to get all the passengers off the bus before it was struck by the train.
The train was cleared to continue south around midnight, according to Garcia. No one was injured in either collision.
Opa-locka police is reviewing surveillance footage and talking to eyewitnesses to find the hit-and-run driver, the agency said.
“The Opa-locka Police Department is committed to a thorough investigation and bringing the responsible party to justice,” the department said. “We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Opa-locka Police Department at 305-681-1033.
