An Opa-locka police officer — the brother of the city’s mayor — is again facing domestic violence-related charges, officials said.

“The Opa-locka Police Department is deeply concerned about the arrest of one of our own officers,” the department said in a statement.

Johane Taylor, 36, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and has since been released from jail, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. He is Opa-locka Mayor John Taylor’s brother and the youngest son of former Opa-locka Mayor Myra Taylor.

Opa-locka City Manager Darvin E. Williams told the Miami Herald an arrest warrant was issued for Taylor based on a complaint made by a woman involving domestic violence.

He is facing two counts of battery and one count of robbery by sudden snatching, Williams said.

Opa-locka police said Taylor has been suspended without pay, a status which could change depending on the outcome of his charges.

“The Opa-locka Police Department takes these allegations very seriously and we are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within our ranks,” the department said. “We are committed to transparency and accountability throughout this process.”

Last year, Taylor was arrested on similar charges — battery, aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. While the case was dismissed, he was being accused of physically battering and threatening to kill family members for almost a decade.
