Man dies after medical emergency at Hard Rock Stadium during Rolling Loud, police say
A man died Sunday afternoon after needing medical attention during the sold out hip-hop festival Rolling Loud in South Florida, according to authorities.
Around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to Hard Rock Stadium, 2269 NW 199th St. Miami Gardens, as tens of thousands of fans watched their favorite artists perform, Andrea Rudchenco, a spokeswoman with the department, told the Miami Herald.
Paramedics then took the patient — later identified as 23-year-old Jordan Petrocchi — to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died around 3 p.m. Sunday, Det. Luis Sierra, a spokesman with Miami-Dade police, told the Herald.
“We are still waiting on the toxicology report and a report from the medical examiner’s office,” Sierra said Monday afternoon.
Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau is investigating. Authorities haven’t said what caused him to require medical assistance.
“At the present time, this case is being classified as an unclassified death pending further investigation,” Det. Alvaro Zabaleta told the Herald Sunday night.
Rolling Loud told the Herald that it will continue to provide support to the authorities during their investigation.
“Our condolences are with the young man’s family and friends,” the organization said in an email Wednesday.
Jackson Kroger and Brandon Black, friends of Petrocchi, have created a GoFundMe fundraiser to pay for his funeral expenses and to support his mother. As of Wednesday afternoon, they had raised over $8,000.
Kroger wrote in the GoFundMe that Petrocchi was set to graduate in August from Clemson University in South Carolina.
“He had a promising future ahead of him and brought joy to everyone he met,” Kroger wrote in his friend’s GoFundMe. “His outgoing nature and infectious smile never failed to lift the spirits of those around him.”
“Whether it was lending a helping hand to a friend in need or simply brightening up the room with his laughter, Jordan had an undeniable impact on all of our lives.”
Pam Camarena, Petrocchi’s aunt, said on her Facebook profile on Monday that her nephew died “very suddenly.”
“He was an amazing young man,” she said. “We love you, Jordan. You will always be missed.”
