A hit-and-run driver killed two Florida Memorial students in Miami Gardens

A hit-and-run driver killed two women Sunday night near Florida Memorial University, Miami Gardens police said.

The school’s social media accounts confirmed Monday morning that both women were first-year students at the school. Social media mourners identified one woman as Asiayanna Green from South Carolina.

A group prayer started at noon Monday at the FMU Clock Tower. Grief counseling sessions started in the FMU/FIU Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The women, whose identities have not been released, were walking in the middle of LeJeune Road in the 16300 block, police said, when a man driving his Infiniti south smashed into them. As the women lay dead in the street, the driver jumped out of his car and ran. Police took him into custody soon afterward.

LeJeune Road was closed into Monday morning’s rush hour.
