3 killed, 1 taken to hospital after a crash in Miami Gardens, troopers say

Three people were killed Tuesday in an early morning crash on U.S. 441 in Miami Gardens, troopers said.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. and left U.S. 441 (Northwest Seventh Avenue) shut down for about five hours during the investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP spokesman Lt. Alejandro Camacho says a gray Nissan Altima was traveling north on Northwest Seventh Avenue and was attempting to make a left turn onto Northwest 204th Terrace when it collided with a black Mercedes sedan that was heading south on US 441.

Camacho says the man who was driving the Altima and his two female passengers died in the crash. It is still unclear if the two females are minors or adults. The Mercedes driver was taken to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center with minor injuries.

Video taken by Miami Herald news partner CBS4 later in the day showed the Altima with heavy front-end damage and a yellow tarp on the windshield being loaded onto a tow truck.

The victims’ identities will not be disclosed until family is notified.
