About $300,000 in damage after fire rips through lot at Mercedes-Benz dealership
A Mercedes-Benz dealership in Miami Gardens incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages after an early morning fire scorched at least five cars on its parking lot, police said.
Some other cars received minor damage.
Miami Gardens police responded to a call around 3:30 a.m. about a car on fire at the dealership at 1200 Northwest 167th St., said Officer Carlos Austin.
When police arrived they saw several cars in the parking lot on fire, Austin said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue put out the blaze, but not before at least five cars were destroyed and several others were damaged, said Austin.
“AutoNation security is sharing the video from the lot with local authorities. The local police currently investigating at this time. Damage was limited to a few vehicles,” said the dealership’s spokesman Marc Cannon in an email to the Miami Herald.
Austin said a Miami Gardens’ arson detective told him that “the approximate loss is $300,000. Most of the cars destroyed were used/pre-owned vehicles.”
That math adds up, if you figure that one of the least expensive 2019 Mercedes A-Class retails for about $34,000 and a 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63 can top $100,000.
Details on the models or exact number of cars burned were not available.
Miami-Dade Fire and Miami Gardens police are investigating the fire. There is no information on suspects at this time, Austin said.
