After two men stole a dirt bike from a man in Opa-locka Thursday night, the owner gave chase in his car, police said. A few minutes later the bike crashed in Miami Gardens and by the time police arrived, the two men who were on it were dead, police said.

Friday morning, Miami Gardens police were still trying to sort through the confrontation and figure out exactly what happened. They determined one of the men on the dirt bike was shot dead. But police still haven’t said whether the other man died in the crash or after being shot.

The man who allegedly fired the weapon, remained at the scene Friday morning and was co-operating with police. None of the three men involved in the incident have been named.

“There’s an accident and shots were fired. One of them takes off, collapses and dies,” said Miami Gardens police spokeswoman Carolyn Frazer.

Police said they received two calls around midnight. One was about some type of disturbance. The other call was about the crash, which happened at Northwest 151st Street and 24th Avenue. When police arrived, Frazer said, they soon realized the two calls were related.

One of the men was found dead at the scene of the crash. The other man managed to run from the scene, but collapsed died near a home.

A woman named Alicia Brown told Miami Herald news partner CBS 4 that one of the victims was her 18-year-old nephew.

“His mother is just overwhelmed right now because that was her only son,” she said. “This is something that she’s not going to live down.”
