Road rage incident turns fatal after driver is shot in the face, police say

One driver was shot in the face and another driver is now in police custody after an alleged road rage incident on an Opa-locka street Friday morning.

The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of the 24-year-old man.

According to investigators, a black Kia Forte and a white Ford pickup truck were traveling eastbound on Northwest 135th Street at about 7 a.m. After a collision, the vehicles came to a stop at Northwest 42nd Avenue. Both drivers got out of their vehicles.

The driver of the black Kia Forte, a 22-year-old man, took out a firearm and shot the driver of the white pickup truck, police said.

“The shooter called 911 and remained on scene,” police said. The identities of the men have not been released.

The victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he died of his injuries, police said.

Homicide investigators are interviewing the shooter and witnesses. “Charges, if any, are pending,” police said.

Video, from Reliable Media, shows rescue teams working on the victim at the scene.

Traffic remains backed up as officers have closed a portion of Northwest 135th Street to continue their investigation.
