Shooting leaves one dead, one wounded in Miami Gardens, FL
UPDATE: Both victims have died, one at the scene and the other at the hospital, Miami Gardens police said Saturday night.
Miami Gardens police have responded to a shooting that has left two people dead in the area of Northwest 167th Street and 27th Avenue.
These are the seventh and eighth persons shot in Miami Gardens since last Saturday.
The shootings happened just after noon Saturday. The men were in a car underneath the Palmetto Expressway overpass in a heavily-trafficked area when someone opened fire into the car and hit the driver and the passenger.
One of the men died on the scene. The other was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where he later died, police said.
Police describe the subject as a black man in his 20s with a thin build, about 5-foot, 8-inches. He was wearing a tan or beige shirt and pants and was seen running north on Northwest 27th Avenue.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Three people were shot Thursday afternoon in Miami Gardens while standing outside a home in the neighborhood. One of them was a 17-year-old boy. Earlier that day, one man was wounded in a shooting outside a Miami Gardens Family Dollar store.
Two men in their 20s were fatally shot in Miami Gardens last weekend. Michael Mathis, 21, died after a drive-by shooting last Saturday. Just 14 hours later, about an hour into Father's Day, Thristan Hanson, 24, was killed near his father's home.
