Elementary school students evacuated after a suspicious package was discovered

Hundreds of students from Brentwood Elementary School in Miami Gardens were evacuated Friday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered on school grounds.

The “controlled dismissal” happened after school administrators saw something unusual, said John Schuster, Miami-Dade Schools’ communications director.

WPLG Local 10 reports that the device, which appears to have wires and a clock, is sitting against a fence that leads to one of the school’s fields.

Administrators called school police after they saw the package. They were told to evacuate students from the school, Schuster said, adding officials are taking a serious look at the package. “We hope to have more news soon,” he said.
