Woman’s body found in water near hospital identified as Finnish worker

The body of a woman found in the water behind Mount Sinai Medical Center has been identified.

Essi Puhakka, 27, was found by boaters on Friday. Miami Beach police say Puhakka was from Finland on a work visa.

People on a boat spotted the unresponsive woman, pulled her out of the water, called 911 and began life-saving measures, police said.

Once at the seawall behind the hospital, she was taken to Mount Sinai by Miami Beach Fire Rescue. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of death, and toxicology reports are still pending.
