The 1924 Walter DeGarmo mansion on 27 Star Island is moved to make way for a 20,000-square-foot mansion that will be built closer to the water on the same property.

Wanting to avoid conflict with the city and preservationists, the owner, John Jansheski, opted to move the old house.

“It was a bit of the path of least resistance, because the city and the preservation folks have a very strong attachment to preserving historic homes,” he said.
