Police investigating deadly hit and run in South Beach
A fatal hit and run left a man dead in South Beach and police searching for the driver.
Miami Beach police said a silver convertible BMW was driving fast on southbound Collins Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when it hit a man in the crosswalk at 11th Street.
The man driving the BMW fled on foot. Police continue to search for him.
Three female passengers in the BMW stayed on scene and were detained for questioning by police.
The pedestrian died on scene.
The impact of the collision could be seen on the front end of the BMW afterward. A dent stretched up the driver side, and the windshield was smashed.
Cops closed off a portion of Collins Avenue from 10th to 12th Street while homicide investigators were on the scene, where authorities reconstructed the accident with yellow markers and orange cones early Tuesday morning.
