Man killed after being hit by garbage truck on South Beach

A man trying to cross an intersection on Miami Beach was killed Friday morning after being hit by a garbage truck.

By late morning, police had not released the name of the man, or charged the driver.

The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. at the intersection of South Pointe Drive and Washington Avenue, not far from Joe’s Stone Crab.

Miami Beach Detective Vivian Thayer said the driver, who worked for Pronto Waste Service, remained on the scene until police arrived.
