An off-duty police officer was involved in a shooting early Wednesday that left a person critically injured, authorities say.

Around 1:10 a.m., Miami Beach police rushed to South Pointe Park, 1 Washington Ave., upon reports of a shooting, Miami Beach Police spokesman Christopher Bess said.

A person, who was not identified, was found struck by a bullet and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives' initial findings show that the off-duty officer was involved in an incident with the other person and a gun was fired.

It’s unclear for which agency the officer works.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, as is protocol when an officer is involved.
